DOUBLE DEGREE

Rogier Busser, Programme Director at the International Business and Management Studies (THUAS), visited UFV campus in order to work on the future double degree between both institutions. He had some meetings with directors and professors of the Business and Law Faculty, and staff from the Internationalization Office.

EUROPEAN UNIVERSITIES – ERASMUS+

The University of Cagliari and Masaryk University, members of The Hague Network, were successful in the first call of the European Universities initiative proposed by the European Commission in fall 2017. The new alliance of six universities named EDUC (European Digital UniverCity), led by the University of Potsdam and encompassing also the Universities of Rennes I, Paris-Nanterre and Pécs, will receive 5M € for the period 2019-2022 in order to carry out its project focused above all on harmonizing the key administrative structures of the members and on enhancing various types of mobilities (traditional, virtual, blended, short-term etc.), including mobilities for students with special needs. Congratulations!

RHEIN WAAL VISIT TO THE HAGUE

Dr M. Kaufmann of Rhein Waal University of Applied Sciences visited THUAS for discussions with P. Nixon in order to explore ways in which Rhein Waal could both deepen and widen its participation in The Hague Network and reach out to the other partners in the network.

THUAS TEACHING VISIT TO MASARYK (1-6 December)

Teaching visit to Masaryk University, to the Faculty of Arts by P.G.Nixon of THUAS European Studies Dept. He (ably supported at distance by R.Kleiweg de Zwaan) taught a re-worked version of their THUAS minor course “Sex in three dimensions”, which was entitled “Sex, The Body and Cyborgs”. It attracted more than 100 students, which is double the number who took the course last year. The course involved 2 online lectures and 7 ‘live’ lectures, as well as workshops on essay design and storytelling in film. The trip was financed by MUNI.

SUSTAINABILITY FORUM IN THE HAGUE

The Finance and Control Program of The Hague University of Applied Sciences in cooperation with its strategic partners, Univ. Francisco de Vitoria and Tampere University of Applied Sciences, organized the 2nd International Forum on Sustainability. The goal was to provide understanding of the key concepts of sustainable value creation by sharing implementations, knowledge and lessons learned between the industry, researchers and university lecturers. The focus of the case study provided a blueprint of how the companies and university researchers and lecturers can collaborate in order to improve the university curriculum to better prepare the students and future business professionals.

THE HAGUE NETWORK SEMESTER MEETING – UFV MADRID

The fall meeting was hosted this time by U. Francisco de Vitoria and attended by P. Nixon, Chair of Network (The Hague University of Applied Sciences); B. Navajas and J. Pérez-Miranda (U. Francisco de Vitoria); A.M. Aloi and D. Poddesu (Universitá di Cagliari); J.Pavlik (Masaryk University); K.Jokipakka (via Skype) and N. Kahra (Tampere University of Applied Sciences); R.Side and E.Lister (University of Derby). Some of them participated in the II International Week.

In the morning there was a tour of the Motor Sport Institute, followed by a series of presentations and discussions on different aspects such as European Universities, visibility of the network, and Cybersecurity, with R.Maxwell. A Networking Lunch took place to enable informal discussions with the presenters and further staff from the degree in Management and International Relations (J.Peláez, G.Graíño). Details of the outcomes of the meeting will be posted in a report.

DELEGATION FROM DERBY VISITS THUAS

A delegation from UoD visited THUAS. It comprised Dr A. Baxendale, Head of Research and Innovation Services, and Prof. P. Lynch, Chair of Professoriat. They met people focused on research from the centres of expertise at THUAS. The process of growing a culture of research and scholarship is one that has both challenges and opportunities. This visit was designed to share expertise and experiences and to seek further ways of deepening collaboration.

VISIT FROM THE HAGUE (NURSING) TO UFV MADRID

Susana Menéndez, together with several professors from Nursing area (Sanne de Vries, Jeroen Dikken, Christine Pijnappels, Sander Kerstens) participated in the III International Conference in Nursing at Universidad Francisco de Vitoria. They also had the opportunity to meet with Alina Renghea (Erasmus Coordinator for Nursing) in order to explore future ways of collaboration, focused on research.
